Illuminated skyscrapers in the downtown Houston skyline at night

Y'all, it's officially that time of year! The weather is finally cooling off, Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and the holiday lights are going up all over town. Every year I get asked, "Shara, where should we go to see the lights?" So I pulled together my 2026 list of holiday light displays and events around Houston, Katy, Sugar Land and the surrounding areas, with dates straight from the organizers so you can plan ahead.

Quick tip before you go: many of these events sell timed tickets, and the most popular nights (weekends and the week before Christmas) go fast. Book early and always double-check the organizer's website for weather updates and closures.

Thanksgiving Week Kickoff

  • H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade (Downtown Houston): The 77th annual parade steps off Thursday, November 26, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. in downtown Houston. If you'd rather stay in your pajamas, it's broadcast live on local TV, too. Check the City of Houston's parade page for the route map and street closures before you head out.
  • Sugar Land Christmas Tree Lighting (Sugar Land Town Square): Friday, November 20, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. at 2711 Plaza Drive. Expect live holiday performances, hot chocolate, face painting and letters to Santa. Free parking is available at Mercer Stadium (16403 Lexington Blvd.) with shuttles running to Town Square from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The Big Houston Light Shows

  • Zoo Lights at the Houston Zoo: November 19, 2026 through January 3, 2027, 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. (last entry 9:30 p.m.). This year's theme is "Lighting the Way for Wildlife." Tickets are date-specific and non-refundable, kids 2 and under are free, and the zoo is closed December 9 and Christmas Eve. New this year: it's open on Christmas Day.
  • Galaxy Lights at Space Center Houston: November 14, 2026 through January 3, 2027. A great pick if you've got space fans in your crew.
  • Radiant Nature at the Houston Botanic Garden: November 20, 2026 through February 21, 2027, so this one runs well past the holidays if your December calendar is already packed.
  • Astros Light Up the Park at Daikin Park: December 4, 2026 through January 3, 2027 in downtown Houston.
  • City Hall "Deck the Hall" Tree Lighting: December 5, 2026 at Houston City Hall, with City Lights Downtown Holiday Magic running November 21 through December 31.
  • Lights in the Heights: Saturday, December 12, 2026 in Woodland Heights. It's a walkable, neighborhood-wide celebration and one of my favorite Houston traditions.

West Side: Katy and Fulshear

  • The Light Park in Katy: This drive-through light show runs November 6, 2026 through January 3, 2027 at Typhoon Texas (555 Katy Fort Bend Road). Pay by the carload, turn up the Christmas playlist and stay warm in the car. Check their site for 2026 pricing.
  • A Berry Merry Christmas at Dewberry Farm (Brookshire): Just a short drive from Fulshear and Katy at 7705 FM 362, Dewberry Farm hosts its annual Christmas celebration and a Christmas tree farm. Confirm 2026 dates and tickets on their website before you go.

Living out west means quick access to all of this plus easy commutes along I-10 and the Grand Parkway. Browse homes in Katy and Fulshear if you're curious what's available.

Southwest: Sugar Land, Missouri City, Richmond and Rosenberg

  • Sugar Land Holiday Lights at Constellation Field: November 20, 2026 through January 3, 2027 at 1 Stadium Drive. Pair it with the tree lighting at Town Square on opening night for a full holiday evening in Sugar Land.
  • Neighborhood drive-bys: Some of the best lights in Fort Bend County are on people's front lawns. Load up the car with hot cocoa and cruise through decorated streets around Missouri City, Richmond and Rosenberg. Please be courteous: drive slowly, keep headlights low and don't block driveways.

Northwest: Cypress

Cypress really shines during the holidays, especially in its master-planned communities where many homeowners go all out with synchronized displays and walkable streets full of lights. Grab a map from your community's HOA or social pages, bundle up and make an evening of it. If you've been eyeing the northwest side, my Cypress homes page is a great place to start.

My Tips for a Stress-Free Lights Night

  • Go on a weeknight. Monday through Thursday crowds are usually lighter than Friday and Saturday.
  • Buy tickets online ahead of time. Several events above use timed entry and can sell out.
  • Dress in layers. Houston weather can swing 20 degrees in a day, so bring a jacket even if it's warm at lunch.
  • Check the weather. Some events are rain or shine (like Zoo Lights), and others may close for storms or freezes.
  • Snap your holiday card photo. Many of these spots make a gorgeous backdrop!
